ProoooooooooooeTracker! The prospect of four extra channels wasn't sufficient to compensate for Octamed's filthy and vile GUI and indefinably nasty, weak sound. Besides, ProTracker taught us to make magic in four channels - skills which served us for GoatTracker, AHX etc. I think Hively coming a decade later than AHX brings us 16 channels just when we really deserve it, after years of practicing our note-economy skills;)

MusicLine Editor FTW! Such a shame nobody ever figured out how to use it. But of the two, Protracker wins every time. It even beats AHX but I don't think I'm supposed to say that. :)

Mwahah, comparing AHX to Protracker is a misunderstanding, 'cause they are "a bit" different trackers.

We're not really comparing AHX to Protracker; rather Protracker to OctaMed :) AHX just happens to come up in conversation if a) it's discussing Amiga trackers and b) it's on the HivelyTracker page:P

OctaMED V4 is/was the 4ch tracker, theres no question about it ;-)

Actually I even preferred MEd v1 over ProTracker(and variants) back then. Lots of things in PT/ST/NT just doesnt feel right.
Not to say there werent problems with OctaMEDV4 either, most annoying was the whining sound-bug when playing MIDI and samples on the same track.

OctaMED was the best for me. I can't really remember the reasons, maybe it was the multichannel possibility (though I always preferred OctaMED.V5 for composing 4-channel songs too) or the more user-friendly way to use some stuff. But I am sure Protracker was the best for others. Actually comparisons are useless because we can never reach a conclusion about which is objectively best - they are both as good when certain viewpoints are used. From some viewpoints PT is better, from others the OctaMED is better. Those who think PT is better will not change their opinion over this kind of comparison discussion and same goes with those who prefer OctaMED. I am always glad to use the Protracker nowadays also though. So no real conclusion here.. I am just glad there are many different tools because there are many different kinds of people who certain tools fit better than others.

I wish Digibooster Pro had volume ramping for XM :( If it did, I'd probably buy it... Doesn't look like any new versions are hurrying off the production line soon.

Protracker was the first music application I used on my first (as opposed to a friends) amiga. As such, it will always have a special place :-)

I migrated to Octamed later, principally for the extra features. MIDI support became more and more important to me and when SoundStudio came out, I was smitten. It's my main tracker for 3.x still.

Looking forward to giving Hively a spin, once I finally get a moment to use my BPPC or *gasp* the A1 still sitting forlornly under my desk :-D

Try pie, try.

Between the two, Protracker. And between PT and the world, PT3.62 (even with its strange replayer). No doubt.
